About the Role

The role requires someone who genuinely enjoys working with very young children and understands that children under three learn primarily through play, movement, repetition, sensory experiences, songs, stories, and interaction.

Key Responsibilities

1. Child Care & Safety

  • Ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of all children at all times

  • Supervise children closely during classroom activities, free play, outdoor play, and transitions

  • Assist children with age-appropriate personal needs such as eating, drinking, toileting/diapering, and changing clothes, where required

  • Maintain a clean, hygienic, and child-friendly classroom

  • Observe children for signs of discomfort, illness, distress, or unusual behavior and report concerns to the School Head

  • Follow all school safety, hygiene, and child-protection procedures

2. Early Learning & Development

  • Plan and conduct simple, engaging activities: sensory play, fine and gross motor activities, pre-phonics and sound awareness, numbers and counting

  • Songs, rhymes and action songs, storytelling and picture-book activities

  • Art, craft, music and movement, sorting, matching and simple classification activities

  • Outdoor play, physical activities, and practical-life activities that encourage independence

  • Activities that develop attention, listening, and following simple instructions

  • Focus on learning through play rather than formal academic instruction

3. Language & Communication Development

  • Talk to children regularly using clear and simple language

  • Encourage children to express themselves through words, gestures, and actions

  • Introduce new vocabulary through stories, songs, objects, and everyday experiences

  • Use repetition, rhymes, and phonetic sounds to build early language foundations

4. Social & Emotional Development

  • Help children settle into the preschool environment and ease separation anxiety

  • Encourage sharing, turn-taking, and gentle interaction with peers

  • Help children learn simple classroom routines while encouraging independence

  • Handle challenging behaviour calmly, patiently, and positively — physical punishment, shouting, threatening, or humiliating a child will not be permitted

5. Classroom Management

  • Maintain a predictable daily routine and prepare learning materials in advance

  • Keep children engaged through short, varied, age-appropriate activities

  • Organise and maintain classroom resources; ensure toys and materials are cleaned and stored appropriately

  • Support transitions between activities, snack time, outdoor play, rest, and pick-up

6. Observation & Documentation

  • Observe each child's development and participation

  • Maintain simple records of children's progress and interests

  • Inform the School Head of any developmental, behavioral, or emotional concerns

7. Parent Communication

  • Maintain a warm and professional relationship with parents

  • Provide appropriate feedback on the child's participation, behaviour, and development

  • Communicate concerns promptly to the School Head and maintain confidentiality

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Warm, caring, and affectionate towards young children

  • Patient and emotionally mature

  • Energetic and willing to actively participate in play and activities

  • Comfortable working with children below 3 years

  • Creative and able to conduct simple hands-on activities

  • Responsible, punctual, and a good team player

  • Willing to learn and follow the school's teaching methodology

  • Comfortable with basic English communication

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum qualification: 12th Standard / PUC

  • ECCE, Montessori, NTT, D.Ed., preschool teaching, or childcare training will be an advantage

  • Previous experience working with children below 3 years preferred

  • Candidates with the right attitude, patience, and genuine interest in early childhood education may be considered even without formal preschool teaching experience
